Fatal Shooting at Midtown Subway Station Leaves One Dead, Suspect at Large
A Midtown Manhattan subway shooting left one man dead Saturday afternoon and set off a police search for a suspect who fled the 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue station on foot, authorities said. The gunfire was reported around 12:21 p.m. on the northbound E train platform, in a busy section of the Theater District.
What Police Say Happened

The victim was shot once in the chest after a dispute that moved between the platform and a train and then back again, according to the NYPD. The suspect approached the man, fired, and then left the station on foot. Police described the shooting as not random, a characterization that suggests investigators see a connection between the two men rather than an attack on a stranger.
Officers were still working Saturday to establish exactly where the shots were fired, the department said. No weapon description was released, and police did not provide a description of the suspect.
Victim Died at Hospital

Emergency responders took the wounded man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m., roughly forty-five minutes after the shooting was reported. Police said the victim was possibly in his 30s but had not released his name, citing the need to notify his family first.
Investigation and Scene

Yellow police tape blocked the station entrance through Saturday afternoon as investigators worked the platform. The department has not said how many witnesses were present, whether a weapon was recovered, or what prompted the dispute. The search for the suspect remained ongoing.
MTA Official Reacts

Michael Kemper, the MTA’s chief security officer, said the person responsible should face the maximum consequences the justice system allows. He also noted that no bystanders were reported injured — a point that stood out in a station normally filled with tourists and theatergoers on a Saturday.
The investigation is continuing, and police asked anyone with information to come forward as they try to identify and locate the man who fled.
