Apple has started accepting the iPhone Duo pre-order in more than 70 countries and regions, giving buyers their first chance to reserve the company’s first foldable smartphone ahead of launch-day delivery on Friday, October 23. The device starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage.

Orders are being taken through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app. If the pre-order option does not appear immediately, Apple customers may need to refresh the website or the app before the purchase page loads correctly.

A Get Ready option is available to speed up checkout, allowing buyers to complete the process in as few as two taps. Apple says its specialists can assist customers in identifying savings and payment choices.

Design and display

The iPhone Duo folds down to a 5.4-inch display and opens into a 7.6-inch screen with an iPad-like aspect ratio. When unfolded, it measures just 5.2mm thick, making it Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date.

The frame combines aluminum and titanium, with ceramic fiber antenna inserts and support ribs. Apple built the hinge from more than 100 components, and the mechanism supports multiple orientations and positions for different uses.

Two notable omissions separate the Duo from recent flagship iPhones. It uses Touch ID rather than Face ID, and its two-lens camera system does not include a telephoto lens.

Price, colors and payment options

The $1,999 starting price applies to the 256GB model. Apple is offering the handset in star white and night sky.

Buyers who prefer not to pay in full can use Apple Upgrade, a lease program run by Klarna. A 24-month lease starts at $57.99 per month.

Trade-in can reduce the cost further. Apple says eligible iPhone 13 or newer models can generate savings of $175 to $885.

Carrier pre-orders

Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are also accepting pre-orders for the iPhone Duo. The carriers are offering trade-in deals and discounts, though the fine print on those promotions is worth reviewing before committing.

Supply constraints and launch timing

Rumors point to limited supplies because of production issues, raising the possibility of a quick sellout. Buyers who want the device on launch day may need to order early.

Apple recommends AppleCare+ alongside the Duo. Without a protection plan, repair fees can reach as high as $1,499.
