Honor has confirmed that the Honor WIN 2 carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K ingress protection ratings, a notable claim for a gaming-oriented flagship that also packs two active cooling fans and a 10,100mAh battery. The ratings were announced through a promotional poster and detailed in a post on Honor Weibo, with fine print setting out the test standards and the limits of the protection.

Two fans, one camera module

The WIN 2’s thermal design is unusual for a phone with water-resistance claims. Honor has previously reported that the cooling system combines a vertical cross-flow fan rated at 20,000 RPM with a side fan rated at 31,000 RPM. The fan grille sits inside the rear camera module, next to the two rear cameras. Active cooling of this kind normally introduces openings that complicate dust and water sealing, which makes the confirmed IP ratings the headline detail of the pre-launch period.

How the ratings were tested

Honor’s fine print separates the standards behind the three ratings. IP68 and IP69 were tested under GB/T 4208-2017, a Chinese standard, while IP69K was tested under ISO 20653:2023, an international standard. IP69K is the highest rating among those confirmed. All results come from controlled laboratory conditions, so they describe performance under the specified tests rather than everyday durability.

Honor’s own caveats

The company has been explicit that the WIN 2 is not a dedicated waterproof phone. Protection may degrade over time as the device wears, and Honor cautions against charging the phone while it is wet. Buyers should treat the IP ratings as an added layer of resilience rather than a licence to expose the device to water.

Core hardware ahead of launch

Under the hood, the WIN 2 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The display is a 6.89-inch 2K OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate, and the 10,100mAh battery supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. Those figures place the device firmly in flagship territory, with the display refresh rate aimed at gaming use.

Pre-orders and configurations

Pre-orders are open on Honor’s Chinese online store with a CNY 100 deposit, roughly $14. Five memory configurations are offered, from 12GB + 256GB up to 16GB + 1TB. Colour options are Red Blue Buff, Black and White. Pricing has not been disclosed and will be announced at the launch event on October 21. Global availability has not been confirmed.
