Truck Strikes Youth Soccer Game in Wichita, Killing Two and Injuring Ten
A Wichita soccer complex crash on Saturday afternoon left two people dead and ten others injured after a woman drove a truck through a youth soccer game at Stryker Sports Complex, according to Wichita police.
The dead were identified only as a 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man, both from McPherson, Kansas. Capt. Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department said the two were not related to each other.
Ten other people were hurt. Five were children between the ages of 5 and 9; five were adults ranging in age from 28 to 68. Moses described the injuries as ranging from minor bruises to severe, but said police believed none were life-threatening. A 61-year-old woman was also hospitalized for medical issues not related to trauma.
Driver in Custody and Cooperating

The driver, a 34-year-old woman from Garden City, Kansas, remained at the scene in the truck and was taken into custody, Moses said. She has been cooperative with investigators. Police have not released her name, nor have they named the victims.
Two children were in the truck with the driver. One of the driver’s children had a game scheduled at a different field, Moses said.
Authorities have not determined whether the incident was intentional. Moses said the intent was not immediately clear, and the investigation is ongoing. The exact cause of the crash and any potential charges have not been announced.
Emergency Response and Bystander Aid

Emergency calls began shortly before 3:30 p.m. When first responders arrived, they found the boy and the man dead at the scene. Bystanders were already providing medical aid to the injured.
Assisting agencies included the Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies, and Bel Aire police.
Police are asking the public for any video footage of the incident to aid the investigation.
Events Canceled and Suspended

The Stryker Sports Complex, a city facility with 11 turf fields, canceled all events following the crash. The state high school flag football championship was suspended, along with other association matches scheduled through the weekend.
Mayor Lily Wu expressed her sorrow in a Facebook post. Gov. Laura Kelly offered condolences and state resources, and praised the first responders.
