Canada’s Night in Edmonton: Jasudavicius and Malott Deliver Career-Defining Wins

UFC Edmonton on October 17, 2026, will be remembered less for the depth of its card than for what two Canadian teammates accomplished at the top of it. A record 12 Canadians competed at the Rogers Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, but the night belonged to Jasmine Jasudavicius and Mike Malott, who each delivered the most significant victory of their careers in the co-main and main events, respectively.

A Rough Start Before the Turnaround

The evening began badly for the home contingent. The first five Canadians on the card all lost, four of them by submission and one by knockout in a heavyweight bout. That stretch threatened to turn the record-setting Canadian presence into a footnote rather than a celebration.

Tanner Boser, an Edmonton heavyweight, stopped the slide. He won with offensive wrestling, giving the local crowd something to hold onto before the main card produced further Canadian success. Mandel Nallo and Marc-Andre Barriault, two older action fighters, added stoppage wins later on the main card.

Jasudavicius Shocks Blanchfield

Jasudavicius entered the co-main event as a significant underdog against Erin Blanchfield, a highly accomplished jiu-jitsu player a decade younger. The matchup looked like a stylistic trap. Instead, Jasudavicius timed her takedowns and controlled Blanchfield’s back, turning the grappling exchange into her advantage.

The result was the biggest upset of the night, and it should lift Jasudavicius into the women’s flyweight top five. A late bloomer, she has now won seven of her last eight fights. The victory over Blanchfield was not just a ranking springboard; it was a statement that her recent run holds up against elite opposition.

Malott’s Composed Main Event Performance

Malott, 34, headlined against Joaquin Buckley and built his win in layers. He established range with kicks and movement, then used clinch knees before landing a head kick. At one point, Buckley’s mouthpiece flew across the Octagon.

The win improved Malott to eight victories in nine UFC bouts. It also addressed the narrative around his previous loss, a stoppage to Neil Magny after late fatigue. Malott signed with the UFC in 2022, and this performance suggested he has learned from that setback rather than been defined by it.

Rankings and What Comes Next

Malott should enter the welterweight top 10 after beating Buckley. The brief suggests he could face Belal Muhammad or Jack Della Maddalena next, though he remains one or two wins away from a title shot. Jasudavicius, meanwhile, should move into the flyweight top five.

The card itself featured only two ranked matchups and was compared in quality to a typical UFC Vegas event. For Canada, the broader question remains who might follow the standard set by Georges St-Pierre. On this night, Jasudavicius and Malott offered the clearest answer yet, even as the early Canadian losses showed how fragile a home-card narrative can be.
