Eugenio Chacarra Ryder Cup — Eugenio Chacarra has made his position plain to Europe’s captain: he wants to earn a place in the 2027 Ryder Cup on points, not wait for a call from Luke Donald. The 26-year-old Spaniard told Donald he wants one of the six automatic spots on the team rather than a captain’s pick, and he has described automatic qualification as one of his team’s goals.

Donald has been monitoring Chacarra for about 18 months, and the player’s recent run has given the captain more to consider.

Chacarra won the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club on Sunday, his third victory of the season. The result lifted him to the top of the Race to Dubai, overtaking Patrick Reed. He has now finished in the top three in each of his last three starts.

Speaking after the win, Chacarra said that winning the Race to Dubai would mean the world to him and that he hopes to put his name on the trophy. He also acknowledged the difficulty ahead: the playoffs are coming, and Rory McIlroy and Reed will be trying to chase him down.

Chacarra noted that McIlroy always plays well in Dubai and that Reed is also a top player. Neither, he said, will make it easy for him.

A look at Adare Manor

Before the BMW PGA Championship, Chacarra joined a scouting trip to Adare Manor, the venue for the 2027 Ryder Cup. The visit gave him an early look at the course with the match now roughly a year away.

His form since then has strengthened his case for the team, though the final qualification criteria and the exact dates of the Ryder Cup remain to be confirmed.

Spanish inspirations

Chacarra cited Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm as heroes for him. He said Ballesteros did everything for European and Spanish golf, and that he has looked up to Rahm since their college days and into professional golf.

He also said he has a lot of charisma and knows what he is capable of. For Chacarra, the aim is to keep improving and winning.

PGA Tour move and Ryder Cup prospects

In the coming months, Chacarra plans to move to the PGA Tour, where he will seek to prove himself against top players. The Race to Dubai result may not heavily affect his Ryder Cup chances, but automatic qualification remains his stated priority, and he is working hard to achieve it.
