Apple’s $79 iPhone Duo Case Sticks On With Adhesive, Not Magnets

Apple’s first case for its foldable phone does not snap on. The iPhone Duo Case, priced at $79, is a two-piece polycarbonate shell that fastens to the device with adhesive strips running along the inside edges. It is available in Sand and Navy Blue, and Apple began selling it in stores on October 16, 2026 — the same day iPhone Duo pre-orders opened.

How the two halves go on

Because the cover arrives as separate pieces, installation is a deliberate process rather than a quick clip. An insert included in the box walks owners through the steps: peel the film from the adhesive, then press each half onto the corresponding part of the device. The strips sit on the inner edges of the case, holding the shell in place against the phone.

That approach has become familiar in the foldable market. Parker Ortolani noted that the case has a grippy feel and uses adhesive stickers similar to those found on other foldables.

What the case covers — and what it leaves bare

Protection is concentrated on the exterior. The case shields the back camera bump area and the edges around the front outer display, and it includes a cutout for that display. The inside of the unfolded device is a different story: the case does not protect that surface at all.

Material and color choices are straightforward. Polycarbonate forms the shell in both Sand and Navy Blue, with no other finishes listed.

A magnetic alternative for $129

Apple also offers the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, which takes a different route. It attaches magnetically rather than with adhesive, and it covers the front display when in use. The magnets allow the cover to fold back so the outer display remains accessible.

The folio has its own gaps. It does not cover the sides of the device. Its kickstand uses metal hinges underneath, a detail Ortolani highlighted while describing the kickstand as sturdy and the folio overall as the nicer of the two accessories.

The price gap is significant: $129 for the folio versus $79 for the adhesive case. Buyers are effectively choosing between a magnet-based cover with a kickstand and a stick-on shell with more coverage on the back and outer edges.

Pre-order timing and delivery estimates

iPhone Duo pre-orders began on October 16, 2026, and the cases were available in stores that same day — ahead of the first device deliveries, which are expected next Friday. Initial iPhone Duo stock sold out, and shipping estimates now point to January 25 for all colors and capacities.

Apple has not detailed how the adhesive holds up over time or whether the case can be reused after removal. Those questions remain open as the first units reach customers.
