Eligibility is limited to the Fenix 8 series and the Tactix 8. Both are current-generation flagship models in Garmin’s lineup. The Fenix 8 Pro and Tactix 8 Pro are not included in this release and remain on System Software 23.39.

Owners of non-Pro Fenix 8 devices recently received System Software 23.40, which serves as one of the reference points for the new beta’s changelog.

How to Request the Update

The beta is not pushed automatically. Participants must manually trigger a check by navigating to Settings > System > Software Update > Check for Updates. The release is available globally to those enrolled in the Beta Program.

What the Changelog Contains

Of the 45 changes listed in Garmin’s forum post, 37 are bug fixes. The remaining items include feature improvements and adjustments to existing behavior.

The fixes address a broad set of issues, including reboots, crashes, battery drain, and Bluetooth connectivity. Watch faces, calendar, notifications, and audio prompts also receive corrections. GPS, heart rate, swim, and weather features are covered as well.

On the feature side, POI search results now load faster. Course guidance has been improved. New pairing mode instructions have been added for the HRM 200 and HRM 600 heart rate monitors.

Other changes update the swim module and adjust the Change Sport menu so favorite activities appear first. The Pulse Ox App’s vibration behavior has been modified. A fix also prevents Garmin Pay from being used in Stealth Mode through a shortcut.

Firmware Context and Product Lineup

Beta Version 24.12 is the first public beta of the v24.xx branch, which typically precedes a stable firmware release. Garmin has not indicated when a stable version will arrive or when the Pro models will receive beta access.

The release follows recent expansion of Garmin’s flagship range, which now includes the Fenix 9, Fenix 9 Pro, Enduro 4, and Marq Gen 3. The Fenix 8 and Tactix 8 remain current-generation flagships despite the newer additions. The Tactix 8 is priced at $1,299 on Amazon.
