Darnell Lewis Turns Bedtime Lessons Into a Morning Routine Book for Kids
Darnell Lewis spent more than two decades in technology and project management before publishing his first children’s book, Brush, Wash, Dress – Morning SUCCESS!, in summer 2025. The book, aimed at children ages 3 to 7, uses rhymes, illustrations and simple steps to help young readers handle brushing teeth, washing up and getting dressed on their own.
A Morning Routine Built on Songs, Not Volume

Lewis’s approach comes from his own household. Raising two sons, now ages 25 and 19, he found that raising his voice was not always effective. Singing instructions and keeping a positive attitude worked better. The book turns that lesson into a format children can follow themselves, with the goal of building confidence and reducing stress for families trying to get out the door.
From a 2021 TV Segment to a Finished Manuscript
The idea first took hold in 2021, sparked by a television segment. Lewis recalled thinking he could write a book about getting children ready for school. The project then sat for a few years. He resumed work in 2025 and completed the book in early 2026. It was published through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.
Lewis, a member of Oxford High School’s Class of 1989 and a University of Mississippi graduate, now lives in Dallas. He describes himself as a late bloomer as an author. His reading habits at home laid some groundwork: he read bedtime stories to his oldest son starting at age 2, often three books a night. His favorite childhood book was Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
