Trump Says Nobel Snub Stains Norway, Claims He Deserved Eight Prizes
President Donald Trump lashed out at the Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday for awarding the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay instead of him, telling a Syracuse rally that the decision leaves an indelible stain on Norway. The remarks, delivered while campaigning for New York Republicans, marked Trump’s latest public grievance over a prize he has long sought, according to the Trump Nobel Peace Prize Norway storyline.
A Prize He Says He Earned Eight Times Over

Trump asserted that he deserved the award for ending eight conflicts, and went further by claiming he should have received eight Nobel Peace Prizes. He said the committee’s choice had discredited the prize through radical ideologues, and warned that he would not forget Norway. At one point he said the country was ripping off the United States.
He also said he had never heard of Pillay, the 85-year-old jurist who led a United Nations panel that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza. Earlier Friday, the Norwegian committee announced her as the 2026 laureate. Speaking at a law gathering in Germany after learning of the award, Pillay joked that she might share the prize with Trump if he clapped more.
Ukraine Omitted, Iran Unmentioned

During his remarks, Trump did not mention the war in Ukraine, a conflict his administration has failed to end. He also did not bring up the ongoing war with Iran that he launched earlier this year. Allies have argued he deserves the prize for his efforts related to the Gaza war.
The rally in Syracuse was intended to boost Republican candidates, including gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman and attorney general nominee Saritha Komatireddy, who were both in attendance. Trump gave Komatireddy a shout-out before turning his attention to Attorney General Letitia James, calling her a disgusting dog.
Longstanding Feud With James

James, a Democrat, led an investigation into Trump’s business dealings that resulted in a state judge ordering him to pay a fine of over $350 million. The fine was later thrown out on appeal by a state court. Trump’s administration has failed multiple times to prosecute James.
A campaign spokesperson for James responded to Trump’s comments, saying the contrast is clear and welcome. The attack came as Trump seeks to rally support for New York Republicans, including Governor Kathy Hochul’s challenger, Blakeman.
Trump’s pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize has been a recurring theme. In 2025, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who won that year’s prize, offered to share it with him. His administration also removed former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro from power.
