Modi Felicitates Asian Games 2026 Contingent as Sooryavanshi’s Smile Steals the Moment
Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated India’s Asian Games 2026 contingent at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday, celebrating a haul of 85 medals. Among those present was teenage cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, part of the Indian men’s cricket team that won gold. The PM Modi Asian Games 2026 felicitation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi moment arrived when Modi, without naming the youngster, acknowledged medallists aged 15 to 17. The camera turned to Sooryavanshi, who responded with a broad smile.
A ceremony of recognition

The event brought together athletes from multiple sports. Modi praised the contingent’s performance in cricket, hockey, and boxing, and noted the records and milestones achieved at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held in Tokyo. The felicitation served as a formal acknowledgement of the contingent’s efforts and successes on the continental stage.
Youth at the forefront

Modi used the occasion to underline the importance of early talent identification. He said many Indian players aged 15 to 17 performed spectacularly, and stressed that age is not a barrier to success—an early start is advantageous. The government, he added, is focused on identifying and training talent between the ages of 5 and 15. He pointed to Khelo India and Emerging Khelo India as initiatives that will create future opportunities for young athletes.
Women’s contribution highlighted
The Prime Minister also praised Indian women athletes for their medal contributions. Women won 38 of India’s 85 medals, including 11 gold. Modi said these medals reflect a new India, underscoring the growing role of women in the country’s sporting success.
For Sooryavanshi, the ceremony offered a moment in the spotlight even without a direct mention. His smile, caught on camera, became a memorable of the day—a young cricketer sharing in the recognition of a contingent that returned with medals and milestones.
