Apple Watch Sleep Apnea Notifications Arrive in China After Regulatory Green Light
Apple Watch sleep apnea China availability has begun. Apple has launched sleep apnea notifications in mainland China after receiving approval from the country’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The feature is now offered on Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch SE 3, and newer models sold in the region.
Which watches can use the feature

The notification system is limited to specific hardware. Owners of Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, or SE 3 — along with any subsequent models — can access it. Older Apple Watch generations are not included in the launch. The restriction reflects the sensor and processing requirements of the breathing-disturbance algorithm.
How the monitoring works
At the center of the feature is the watch’s accelerometer. While the wearer sleeps, the sensor tracks breathing disturbances. The watch then analyzes the collected data every 30 days. If the analysis finds signs consistent with moderate to severe sleep apnea, the user receives a notification. The system is designed to flag potential cases rather than deliver a diagnosis.
What users can do with the results
When a notification appears, users can export a PDF report. Apple intends that document to be shared with a doctor or other medical professional. The report summarizes the breathing data collected over the analysis period, giving a clinician a structured overview to discuss with the patient. It does not replace a formal medical evaluation.
Regulatory context
The launch follows the NMPA’s approval of the feature. That clearance was required before Apple could make sleep apnea notifications available in mainland China. The approval covers the notification function as a regulated health tool. Apple has not disclosed the exact approval date, pricing, subscription requirements, or availability in other regions.
