Voting Begins for Taunton Daily Gazette Girls Athlete of the Week, Oct. 5-11

The Taunton Daily Gazette has opened voting for its TDG High School Girls Athlete of the Week Oct. 5-11, giving readers a chance to recognize standout performances from the Greater Taunton area. Eight athletes from soccer, cross country, and volleyball are on the ballot, and the poll will remain open until noon Sunday, Oct. 18.

Last week's winner

Alyssa Daniels of Dighton-Rehoboth cross country captured the previous poll for Sept. 28-Oct. 4 with 47.1% of the vote. Makenna Wyatt of Bridgewater-Raynham soccer finished second at 42.6%, while Taylor Nascimento of Bristol Aggie cross country placed third with 5.8%.

This week's nominees

The current ballot features a mix of returning names and new contenders, each backed by notable recent performances.

• Makenna Wyatt, Bridgewater-Raynham soccer: recorded hat tricks against Sandwich and Dartmouth.
• Zoey Onuegbu, Bristol-Plymouth soccer: scored a hat trick against Tri-County.
• Cassidy Hasenfratz, Dighton-Rehoboth soccer: tallied two goals and one assist against Greater New Bedford.
• Taylor Nascimento, Bristol Aggie cross country: finished 36th in the Small School Varsity 5K at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Small/Medium School Invitational, running a personal-best 19:59.9 out of 203 runners.
• Alyssa Daniels, Dighton-Rehoboth cross country: placed second in the Sophomore 5K at the same invitational, clocking a personal-best 19:55.5 out of 73 runners.
• Kenley Hartsell, Bridgewater-Raynham volleyball: posted 16 kills, 15 assists, 8 digs, and 4 aces against New Bedford.
• Alexa Tucan, Bristol-Plymouth volleyball: contributed 7 assists, 4 kills, and 2 aces against Blue Hills.
• Esther Angel Hayes, Dighton-Rehoboth volleyball: delivered 13 assists against Greater New Bedford.

Voting is conducted exclusively through the poll. One vote per person per hour is allowed. Votes submitted by email or any other method will not be counted.

Only players from teams that submit stats to the Gazette or make them available online can appear on the ballot. Coaches or team representatives can email stats to cmerritt@tauntongazette.com.

The poll for Oct. 5-11 closes at noon Sunday, Oct. 18. Readers are encouraged to cast their vote before the deadline.
