49ers Edge Seahawks 32-29 to Reach 5-0 Behind Purdy’s Late Surge
The San Francisco 49ers left Seattle with a 32-29 win over the Seahawks on Sunday, improving to 5-0 for the third time under coach Kyle Shanahan. The final score, 49ers Seahawks 32-29, came after a back-and-forth game that featured seven combined turnovers and multiple personal fouls.
Purdy Delivers in the Fourth Quarter

Brock Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, finishing with a 92.5 passer rating. It was the only game this season in which his rating fell below 100. He now has 13 touchdown passes and two interceptions on the year.
With the 49ers trailing 26-21 in the fourth quarter, Purdy led a 12-play, 74-yard drive that ended with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans. Purdy then found Evans again for a successful two-point conversion, putting San Francisco ahead 29-26. After Seattle tied the game with a field goal, Purdy moved the offense 43 yards in eight plays to set up a 44-yard game-winning field goal.
Shanahan said Purdy did an unbelievable job finding a way to win, noting there were ups and downs and that not everything was perfect. He added that Purdy was really good in the fourth quarter.
Evans Steps Up for a Battered Receiving Corps

The 49ers entered the game with four receivers on injured reserve, and the group took more hits when Deebo Samuel and Jacob Cowing were injured during the game. Evans responded with a season-high seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Purdy called Evans a game-changer and said he feels good throwing to him. Evans told Fox the team knew it would be a dogfight and showed it is a great team.
Turnovers, Ejections and a Controversial Finish

Dre Greenlaw was ejected as part of a game that included multiple personal fouls and seven turnovers. The defenses largely controlled the action until the fourth quarter.
Seattle’s final possession ended when it failed to convert a fourth-and-10. Cooper Kupp’s stretch for a first down on the play was debatable.
The Seahawks were missing some key players and suffered their first home loss in 371 days.
A Strong Resume Through Five Weeks

San Francisco has the best point differential in the NFL. Three of its five wins have come against teams with winning records, including two against divisional rivals and championship contenders in the Seahawks and Rams.
Purdy outplayed Sam Darnold, who struggled for Seattle. The 49ers also had to contend with the NFL’s second-best defense in EPA per play, and Purdy capitalized on early turnovers.
Shanahan praised his backups, calling them warriors and lauding their love for football and weekly effort.
Context and What's Next

The last two times the 49ers started 5-0 under Shanahan, they reached the Super Bowl. Purdy previously played in Seattle in a playoff loss in which the 49ers scored only two field goals and lost by 35 points.
This win was ugly at times, but it came on the road against a strong opponent. The 49ers look stronger than they did a season ago.
